Major Kip Smith, a 61-year-old Black/African American man, was shot and killed in Baltimore, Maryland, on the afternoon of Sunday, August 31, 2025. The incident occurred in broad daylight around 3:15 p.m. in the 5000 block of Palmer Avenue, within the Central Park Heights neighborhood. The scene of the violence was jarringly set near a local playground, disrupting the weekend's calm.
