In the quiet community of Glennville, Georgia, a tragic event shattered the peace on a spring weekend in May of 2025. Leslie Johana Marrufo Torres, a 24-year-old Hispanic woman, was found deceased in a residence on Baxter Durrence Road. The discovery was made by Tattnall County Sheriff's deputies who were responding to a report of gunshots late on a Saturday night.
Inside the home, a grim scene awaited the first responders. Leslie was not the only victim of the violence that had unfolded. Also found deceased were her mother, 51-year-old Veronica Quevedo Torres, and her 18-year-old brother, Edilberto “Eddie” Marin-Torres. All three had been fatally shot. The investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation pointed to a horrific murder-suicide.
The perpetrator was identified as 42-year-old Octavia Chihuahua Castro. Authorities reported that Castro was found at the scene with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, suggesting he had taken his own life after killing the three members of the Torres family. In a small miracle amidst the tragedy, a six-month-old baby was discovered unharmed within the residence.
The motive for the devastating act was not immediately clear to investigators. The bodies of Leslie, her mother, and her brother were transported to the GBI Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies. Following the autopsies, arrangements were made for the three family members to be returned to Mexico for their final resting place. The community was left to mourn the sudden and senseless loss of three of its members.
