In what should have been a safe space, a domestic disturbance escalated into a tragic murder-suicide, claiming the life of 44-year-old Manissa Tranell Howard in Bossier City, Louisiana. The harrowing events unfolded on a Sunday evening, September 14, 2025, inside an apartment at the Villaggio on Venicia Drive.
The situation began when Howard's husband reportedly informed his family that he was suicidal and had barricaded himself inside their apartment with his wife.
He further threatened to shoot anyone who attempted to intervene. Responding to the escalating crisis, Bossier City police officers arrived at the scene. As they attempted to make entry into the apartment to de-escalate the situation and rescue Howard, they were met with gunfire. Two officers, Tre Morris and Garyn Simons, were struck by bullets. Their fellow officers were able to pull them to safety, and they were subsequently hospitalized and released, expected to make a full recovery.
Following the initial exchange of gunfire, a standoff ensued. Once law enforcement was able to secure and enter the apartment, they discovered a grim scene. Manissa Tranell Howard was found deceased in a bedroom, having been shot and killed by her husband. In another room, her husband was found with a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Authorities confirmed that the husband had a documented history of mental illness, though the specific circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation remain under investigation. The incident was ultimately classified as a murder-suicide.
