In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Albany, Georgia, a burst of violence at a gas station on North Slappey Boulevard shattered the quiet of the city. When the chaos subsided, 41-year-old Nikita McGriff, a male resident of Albany, had been fatally wounded. The shooting, which occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on June 7, 2025, marked another tragic entry into the city's growing list of homicides.
Though the shots were fired at the gas station, McGriff was not found there. A short time after the shooting, an emergency call led police to the 500 block of 9th Avenue, about a mile away. There, they discovered McGriff inside a white 2010 Honda Accord, suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest and arm. Despite the immediate efforts of medical personnel who arrived at the scene, his injuries proved to be too severe.

Their investigation initially led them to identify two persons of interest, though both were later cleared of any involvement.
