On June 7, 2025, 41-year-old Nikita McGriff, a man from Albany, Georgia, left home around 1 a.m. and never returned. Albany police later traced gunfire to an Exxon gas station at 1817 North Slappey Boulevard. Not long after, officers found a car still running on the 500 block of 9th Avenue; inside, they discovered Nikita McGriff in the passenger seat with gunshot wounds to the chest and arm.
