Demonta Woodward, age 26, a male from Mounds, Illinois, died on July 27, 2025, after being struck by gunfire in Mount Vernon and later pronounced at Good Samaritan Hospital. Police were called at 12:49 a.m. to the 600 block of South 15th Street, where a large crowd—estimated at more than 100 to 150 people—had gathered for what city officials described as a non-sanctioned event.
