On the night of August 16, 2025, Deegan Kirschke, 17, a high-school senior and accomplished wrestler from Hampshire, Illinois, was shot inside a home on the 100 block of High Street around 11:30 p.m. Responding officers found the teen with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen; he died at the scene.
