Just after dawn on August 14, 2025, gunfire shattered the quiet inside an East Chicago apartment building on Superior Court. Officers arrived within minutes to Apartment #5 and found 22-year-old Jontavis D. Pearson Jr., male, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest on the second floor.
