Myles Hampton, 28, a Black/African American male, was shot on the night of September 13, 2025, in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood after a confrontation on the street. Around 11 p.m., as he and a 21-year-old man stood in the 900 block of West 85th Street near 85th and Sangamon, a black SUV pulled up, words were exchanged, and the men inside opened fire before driving away.
Hampton suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn; the younger victim was hit in the right thigh and was hospitalized in good condition.
Despite emergency care, Hampton was pronounced dead at 12:55 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s autopsy the following day determined he died from multiple gunshot wounds, and the death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators described the shooters as the occupants of a black SUV who fled the scene after the gunfire. As of the reporting in late September, detectives continued to investigate; no arrests were announced and no suspects had been publicly identified.
