Near the 1100 block of North Washington Boulevard by Princeton Street—outside a cluster of late-night spots—two groups began arguing as they moved south along the road. The dispute spilled into a brawl. In the tumult, witnesses said a man produced a 9mm handgun and fired multiple times.
Jessica Lillo, 36, was struck and died at the scene; a man with her was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in stable condition. Police reported no known relationship between the shooter and the victims.
Officers arrived within minutes to find shell casings scattered on the street, a woman gravely wounded, and bystanders restraining the suspected gunman while another held the weapon they'd wrested away. Detectives collected seven 9mm casings and a live round, and interviewed ten witnesses who described a mutual fistfight that escalated as the suspect stood near a red truck. A boyfriend of the woman described hearing three close-range shots and then seeing her fall. At the scene, a witness also turned over a 9mm pistol to police.
The suspect was identified as Grevil Vicente Bonilla Enamorado, 29, of Bradenton. He told detectives he'd fired “into the grass” as warning shots, then plunged into the fray; other witnesses said they saw him shooting near the truck before being tackled. Sarasota Police arrested him that morning on charges of homicide and aggravated battery with a firearm. According to court and jail records cited in local reporting, he was held without bond; a not-guilty plea was filed and a jury trial demanded in early September.
