On a summer afternoon in Greeley, Colorado, the life of 37-year-old Benjamin 'KniteWolf' Sanchez was cut short. He was a Hispanic/Latino male. On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, just after 12:20 p.m., Sanchez was shot in the 800 block of 26th Avenue. Officers who were dispatched to the scene found him with obvious injuries and immediately began to render aid. He was then rushed to North Colorado Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The news of his death sent ripples through the community, where he was known as a husband, stepfather, brother, and son. Described as an amazing husband and stepfather, and a beautiful friend to all who knew him, his loss was deeply felt. An obituary painted a picture of a man who was close with his siblings throughout his life and was a friend to everyone, always willing to help even a stranger. He had a love for classic literature, movies, skateboarding, and playing video games and chess. He especially cherished time spent with his family, including his nephews and stepsons.

In the wake of the shooting, Greeley detectives began an investigation, and the public was asked for any information they might have. By early August, a breakthrough in the case was announced. A suspect, identified as 34-year-old Leandro Jojola, was arrested in connection with the July 16 homicide. He was subsequently held on an allegation of first-degree murder. The arrest brought a measure of progress to an investigation that had begun on that warm July afternoon when a community was shaken by a burst of violence.
