On the first night of the Kern County Fair, September 17, 2025, deputies were called just after 11:10 p.m. to the 900 block of Vine Drive in a neighborhood south of the fairgrounds. There, a male, 40-year-old Wilberto Ruben Hernandez of Bakersfield, was found with fatal gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
