Cortney Lester Butts, 31, male, Black, was shot on the morning of December 15, 2007, after neighbors reported a burst of gunfire around 10:25 a.m. near 1065 Lisbon in Las Vegas. Responding officers found him on the sidewalk in the courtyard just north of apartment #4. He had been struck multiple times and was rushed to Sunrise Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Witnesses described a dark brown four-door Chevrolet Malibu stopping in the alley east of the address. The driver—described as a Black man in his early twenties, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build and wearing a black do-rag—got out, opened fire, and then fled eastbound down the alley in the same car. Despite the quick response and an on-scene canvas, investigators publicly identified no suspect by name.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's cold case listing, the homicide remains open with no arrests announced, and detectives continue to request tips from anyone who might recognize the shooter or the vehicle.
