In the late evening hours of August 3, 2025, the life of 44-year-old Johnathan Joel Rosenlund was tragically cut short in a south Phoenix neighborhood. Phoenix Police officers responded to a call about a shooting near 24th Avenue and Broadway Road around 9:43 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Rosenlund with a fatal gunshot wound. Emergency medical services from the Phoenix Fire Department were dispatched to the scene, but he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.
During
the initial investigation at the scene, law enforcement identified and detained two adult males who were believed to be involved in the incident. Homicide detectives secured the area and began collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses. The two men were later transported to the Phoenix Police Department headquarters for interviews. Following the interrogations, both individuals were released. The investigation remains ongoing, and the ultimate decision regarding any criminal charges will be made by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
Johnathan, known to his loved ones as 'JJ' or 'Jaybird,' was born on July 30, 1981, in Elko, Nevada. He was remembered for a smile and laughter that could touch anyone's heart. He had a deep passion for Hot Rods and Lowriders and found peace in the outdoors, particularly riding over Success Loop in Ely, Nevada. A skilled master in steel work, he took great pride in his career, where he supervised and mentored many in the construction of modern buildings. He is survived by his mother, his two children, his companion, and numerous other family members and friends who will forever miss his presence.
