Nathaniel Cater, a 27-year-old Black male, was found dead on May 24, 1981, in the Chattahoochee River near Atlanta, Georgia. His body was discovered by two youths in canoes, lying partially submerged near the riverbank, close to the Interstate 285 bridge. Cater had not been reported missing prior to the discovery, and his death marked the 28th in a string of killings that had plagued the Atlanta area over a span of nearly two years.
