Louis Lafayette Mercer, a 62-year-old white male, was brutally murdered in El Cajon, California, on June 20, 1965. Mercer was attacked in his apartment during a violent burglary that also left his 57-year-old wife, Lola Mercer, severely injured. The assailant struck Mercer more than 20 times with a wrench, causing massive head trauma that led to his death. Lola Mercer was sexually assaulted and suffered brain damage from the attack.
