Deandre Jarrail Bryant, a 46-year-old African American man, was fatally shot in the parking lot of Wells Park in El Cajon, California, on the night of April 13, 2025. According to witnesses, Bryant was preparing to leave the park around 9:45 p.m. when two young men approached him. The suspects allegedly attempted to rob him for his gold chains. Bryant initially tried to flee, but he was shot in the head. Despite the injury, he managed to get up and run, only to be chased down and shot again in the chest. Surveillance footage captured two individuals running away from the scene and entering a vehicle, though their identities remain unclear.
Bryant was known in the community as a "gentle giant" and a talented rapper. His family described him as a kind-hearted individual who had struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues but was loved by many. His mother, Regina, and sister, Sandra, have made emotional appeals for information, urging anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward. They emphasized that Bryant’s character was not defined by his struggles and that he deserved justice.
Authorities have confirmed that two suspects are being sought in connection with the shooting. Investigators believe Bryant was involved in an altercation with the suspects before one of them opened fire. Both individuals fled the scene before police arrived. As of now, no arrests have been made, and law enforcement continues to seek leads.
