On January 11, 1965, Marianne Schmidt, a 15-year-old white female of West German origin, was murdered alongside her best friend and neighbor, Christine Sharrock, also a 15-year-old white female, at Wanda Beach near Cronulla in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The girls had emigrated with their families and lived in the suburb of West Ryde. Marianne had arrived in Australia in 1958 with her parents, Helmut and Elisabeth Schmidt, and several siblings.
