On a warm spring day, April 28, 1979, in Asotin, Washington, 12-year-old Christina Lee White, a Caucasian female, vanished, sparking a mystery that would linger for decades. She had spent the morning at the Asotin County Fair and parade with her mother and younger sister. After lunch, Christina went to a friend's house in the 500 block of 2nd Street to help prepare a horse for the fair. Around 2:30 p.m., she called her mother, complaining of feeling ill from the heat.
Her mother, without access to a car, suggested she rest with a wet towel on her neck and then walk to a nearby corner to be met. Christina never made it to the meeting spot and was never seen or heard from again.
The hours stretched into a frantic evening. When Christina's mother went to pick her up from the fairgrounds, she was nowhere to be found. Her schoolmates later reported seeing her between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m., seemingly on her way home. She had been riding her brand-new white ten-speed Schwinn bicycle, a birthday present from just eight weeks prior, which also disappeared without a trace. Weeks after she went missing, a discovery was made on the outskirts of Asotin; Christina's school papers were found scattered at a farm, a haunting clue in a case with few answers.
The investigation into Christina's disappearance has continued for years, but no arrests have ever been made, and her case remains unsolved. Authorities believe her case may be connected to a string of other disappearances and murders in the Lewis-Clark Valley between 1979 and 1982. These cases include the 1981 murder of University of Idaho student Kristin David and the 1982 disappearances of Steven Pearsall and stepsisters Kristina Nelson and Jacqueline "Brandy" Miller.
Investigators have identified a person of interest in Christina's disappearance, as well as the other related cases. This man, who has never been publicly named, reportedly lived at the friend's home where Christina was last seen and was one of the last people known to have seen her. He was also connected to the Lewiston Civic Theatre, a location linked to the other disappearances. Despite being interviewed by police multiple times, he has consistently maintained his innocence, and no charges have ever been filed.
