Betty James, a 46‑year‑old Black woman, was one of the confirmed victims of Maury Troy Travis, also known as the “Video Strangler.” She was last known to have been in Illinois, and her body was discovered in the summer of 2001. Law enforcement records and crime documentation report that her remains were found on May 23, 2001, in the St. Louis metro area, likely in or near East St. Louis, Illinois.
