In July 1977, 26-year-old Amish woman Ida A. Gingerich Stutzman died in Dalton, Wayne County, Ohio, under circumstances that have long raised suspicions. Born on July 4, 1951, in Reedsburg, Ohio, Ida was a member of the ultraconservative Swartzentruber Amish sect. She was married to Eli E. Stutzman, and the couple had a young son named Danny. At the time of her death, Ida was pregnant, and both she and her unborn child perished in a barn fire on their property.
