Eleanora Schlegel, a 77-year-old white female, died on January 2, 1997, at Glendale Adventist Medical Center in Los Angeles County, California. She had been admitted to the hospital on December 30, 1996, suffering from pneumonia. Despite initial signs of improvement and expectations that she would soon be discharged, she was unexpectedly found dead in her hospital bed. Her death was initially attributed to respiratory failure.
