On a spring day in Seattle, Washington, on April 24, 1990, the life of 16-year-old Darci Renae Warde took a dark and mysterious turn from which it would never return. A Caucasian female with brown hair and blue eyes, Darci had a history of running away from home. Just before she vanished, police had found her and brought her back to her residence. However, the troubled teenager ran away again that same day, disappearing into the city's streets, this time for good.
She has not been seen or heard from since.
In the initial stages of the investigation, Darci's case was classified as that of an endangered runaway. Her history, which included links to prostitution, raised immediate concerns for her safety. As the days turned into weeks and then years with no word from Darci, a more sinister theory began to take shape among law enforcement officials. Her disappearance coincided with a period when numerous other young women, many of them also involved in prostitution or living on the streets, had gone missing from the Seattle area. This pattern pointed to the horrifying possibility of a serial killer preying on vulnerable individuals.
Investigators now strongly suspect that Darci fell victim to one of the most infamous serial murderers in American history, Gary Ridgway, known as the Green River Killer. Ridgway, who was convicted of 49 murders but is believed to have killed many more, often targeted runaways and sex workers. A chilling piece of information that links him to Darci is a confession he allegedly made to killing a young woman named “Darci” or “Dorsey” in Tacoma during the mid-to-late 1980s. This has led investigators to believe that Darci may have made her way to Tacoma after running away and tragically crossed paths with Ridgway. Despite these strong suspicions, no direct evidence has surfaced to officially confirm her fate, and no arrests have been made specifically in her case, leaving her disappearance an unsolved and haunting mystery.
