On November 17, 1991, 7-year-old African American male Darien Hayes was found murdered in his home in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His death was part of a horrific triple homicide that also claimed the lives of his mother, 27-year-old African American woman Helisa Stewart Hayes, and his 8-year-old brother, African American male Phillip Hayes. The family lived in the Sunshine Mobile Home Park, where the crime scene revealed a deeply disturbing and violent attack.
