His crimes extended beyond North Carolina—he was also charged with the April 5, 1991, murder of Army Specialist Lisa Ann Nadeau, a 24-year-old Caucasian woman, at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Nadeau was found bound, beaten, stabbed, and strangled in her residence.
Richmond was sentenced to death in 1995 for the murders of Helisa Stewart Hayes, her children, and Nadeau. His execution took place in Central Prison, Raleigh, North Carolina, nearly 14 years after the crimes. During his final moments, Richmond expressed remorse, stating that he hoped his death would allow the victims' families to find peace. His defense attorneys argued that improper testimony had been allowed during his trial, but both state and federal courts rejected the appeals.
