On July 20, 1978, 34-year-old white female Sharon Vaughn was found dead from a single shotgun wound to the chest at her home in Copperas Cove, Texas. At the time, her death was ruled a suicide, and no autopsy was performed. The incident occurred just one day after her divorce from her husband, Jack Wayne Reeves, had been finalized. Despite the suspicious timing, authorities initially accepted the suicide explanation and closed the case.
