On February 1, 2025, 31-year-old African American woman Shasmine Ta Shawn Clack was fatally shot at her residence in the 900 block of Tanner Drive, Copperas Cove, Texas. Emergency responders arrived at approximately 11:48 a.m. and found her with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to AdventHealth Central Texas, where she succumbed to her injuries despite life-saving efforts.
The suspect, 27-year-old Alonzo Ezekiel Hunter of Beaumont, Texas, was identified through witness statements. Hunter, who was known to Clack and is the father of her youngest child, was located at a nearby hotel and taken into custody without incident. He was charged with murder and arraigned by Justice of the Peace F.W. “Bill” Price, who set his bond at $500,000. At the time of the incident, Hunter was out on a $15,000 bond for an unrelated assault charge and was scheduled to appear in court on February 3, 2025.
Shasmine Clack was a devoted mother of five children: Terranae, Jaceon, Aleijah, Kalise, and Azeonna. Born on August 31, 1993, in Kingsville, Texas, she moved to Austin at age 15 and graduated from Del Valle High School. Known for her vibrant personality and generosity, she was affectionately called “Shas the Reader” by her clients. Clack was deeply involved in her community and was remembered for her kindness and dedication to her children.
Following her death, Clack's family organized a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and support her children. A balloon release memorial was also held on February 9, 2025, near Tanner Drive and Anderson Avenue, where friends and family gathered to honor her memory. The Copperas Cove Police Department continues to investigate the case and has extended condolences to Clack's family and the community affected by this tragedy.
