Zurijeta Sakanovic was a 21-year-old White female who had recently immigrated to the United States with her family from Teslic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, seeking refuge. The family settled in Iowa, where Zurijeta found work as a maid at the Budgetel Inn in Clive. Her new life, full of promise and hope for a peaceful future away from the turmoil in her homeland, was tragically cut short on September 4, 1997.
