Vivian Sutton Miles, a 60-year-old woman, was tragically killed on January 28, 1971, during a robbery at her country store located about eight miles south of Baxley in Appling County, Georgia. The crime shocked the local community, as Miles was a well-known figure in the area. She was shot to death in what appeared to be a violent and premeditated act.
