In the northern part of Las Vegas, on a Saturday night, the life of 23-year-old Joseph Deandre Jefferson, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On December 7, 2013, just before 10 p.m., gunshots shattered the evening calm near the intersection of H Street and Owens. Metro Police officers who arrived at the scene discovered Jefferson in the parking lot of a Family Market.
He had been shot while inside a vehicle.
The incident drew a crowd, and while numerous witnesses were interviewed, they could only describe an unknown Black male firing a weapon in the parking lot. One witness reported hearing approximately 10 gunshots while leaving a nearby dollar store and seeing a crowd that appeared to be fighting. Despite the presence of onlookers, authorities were unable to gather enough information to identify a suspect in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
In the days that followed, the Clark County Coroner's Office officially identified the victim as Joseph Deandre Jefferson of Las Vegas. However, the investigation into his murder yielded no significant leads. No arrests were made in connection with the homicide, and no suspects were publicly identified. The case eventually went cold, leaving the questions surrounding Joseph Jefferson's untimely death unanswered.
