Do you know who murdered Raheem Rice? In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Las Vegas, on June 3, 2018, the life of 23-year-old Raheem Anthony Rice was tragically cut short. An African-American male, Rice and a group of friends had just left a house party on Novelty Street that had been shut down by police. Shortly before 1 a.m., as they stood on a corner, a black sedan approached.
A person inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Rice and a 17-year-old boy before the car sped off into the night.
Both victims were rushed to University Medical Center, but Rice succumbed to a gunshot wound to his back. The Clark County coroner later ruled his death a homicide. The 17-year-old who was also wounded in the shooting survived. In the weeks that followed, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the killing, stating that Rice was an innocent victim who was simply attending a party.
Detectives appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identity of the shooter or shooters. They urged anyone who was in the area or had surveillance footage to come forward. Despite these pleas, the homicide case remained unsolved weeks after the incident. There have been no publicly announced arrests or identification of any suspects in the years following the fatal drive-by shooting.
