Melody Wiggins, a 29-year-old African-American woman, was reported missing on May 30, 2005. Just a few days later, on June 2, her partially decomposed body was discovered in a rural area of Edgecombe County, North Carolina. The autopsy revealed that she had suffered multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the head, injuries that ultimately proved fatal.
