Denise Williams, a 21-year-old African-American woman and mother of two, was reported missing in 2003. Her body was later discovered floating in Cokey Swamp, approximately five miles southeast of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Denise had earned a GED from Edgecombe Community College and aspired to pursue a career in telecommunications. Her death marked the beginning of a series of murders attributed to the Edgecombe County serial killer, also known as the "Seven Bridges Killer."
