Stephanie Lynn Wenneberg, a 36-year-old woman from Garland, Texas, was fatally shot on January 21, 2025, in the parking lot of the Lake Colony Apartments. The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. when Wenneberg intervened in a domestic dispute between her friend and the friend’s ex-partner. According to reports, Wenneberg attempted to protect her friend during the confrontation, telling the suspect to leave her alone.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Robert Ray Kelly, became enraged and fired his weapon, striking Wenneberg. She was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Wenneberg, a mother of three, was known for her protective nature and willingness to stand up for others. Investigators determined that Kelly had pointed a gun at Wenneberg’s friend during the altercation before ultimately shooting Wenneberg.
