On February 7, 2025, 18-year-old African American male Jaden Tyler Reese was fatally shot in Spring, Texas, during a meetup arranged for a marijuana transaction. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. near Hickory Twig Way and Cypresswood Drive. During the exchange, an attempted robbery took place, leading to Jaden being shot multiple times while driving. His vehicle crashed into a ditch, and he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting. Jerod Cordarius Jones, a 17-year-old African American male, was charged with murder. Court documents indicate that Jones intentionally shot Jaden and was out on bond for prior charges, including assault and criminal mischief, at the time of the incident. He was not legally permitted to possess a firearm. Jones's bond was set at $150,000, and if released, he would be under 24/7 house arrest with an ankle monitor.
The second suspect, 18-year-old African American male Lloyd Lewis, was charged with tampering with evidence. Lewis allegedly returned to the crime scene to collect shell casings and money to conceal evidence. His bond was set at $30,000.
An additional individual, 22-year-old Theron Myles, was arrested for allegedly misleading police about the suspects' whereabouts during the investigation. Myles was charged with hindering apprehension and released on a $100 bond.
Jaden's family and friends remember him as a kind-hearted and protective individual. His mother, Deanna Reese, described him as her "gentle giant" who was always willing to help others. A balloon release was held in his honor, with loved ones sharing memories of his caring nature and love for basketball.
