In the early morning hours of February 12, 2025, at approximately 5:18 a.m., tragedy struck at the Pearl Lantana apartment complex located at 6401 Rialto Boulevard in Austin, Texas. Micaela "Kayla" Sanchez, a 33-year-old Hispanic female, was discovered deceased inside her apartment after firefighters responded to reports of white smoke emanating from within the unit.

The incident began when the Austin Police Department and Austin Fire Department received calls about a residential fire. Upon entering the apartment and extinguishing the flames, firefighters discovered two bodies with obvious signs of trauma. The victims were identified as Micaela Sanchez and Daniel Sanchez, a 35-year-old Hispanic male.

Investigation by APD Homicide Detectives, Arson Investigators, and Crime Scene Specialists revealed that Daniel Sanchez shot and killed Micaela Sanchez before setting fire to both their apartment and a garage they owned within the complex. After committing these acts, Daniel Sanchez then died by suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The case was officially documented as Austin's 6th homicide of 2025.

Law enforcement confirmed this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public. While the exact nature of the relationship between Micaela and Daniel Sanchez remains unclear in public records, both shared the same last name. The police have not released information regarding any prior history with either individual or previous calls to the address. The investigation concluded at the scene, with no arrests made due to the suspect's death.
