Maeghan Bernier, a 29-year-old woman from Austin, Texas, tragically lost her life on July 13, 2014. She was found dead in her apartment at the Gables Grandview Apartments near RM 2222 and Loop 360, with multiple gunshot wounds. The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide.
The incident was determined to be a murder-suicide. Jason Lamb, 41, was also found dead at the scene, having taken his own life with a handgun after shooting Bernier.
Police reports indicated that Lamb had broken into Bernier's apartment following an argument, and the couple had a history of domestic violence. Officers had responded to calls about domestic violence involving the two individuals on two previous occasions.
The Austin Police Department revealed that Bernier had moved to Austin from Boston, Massachusetts, about a year and a half before the incident and worked as a bartender. She had been dating Lamb on and off for a few months. Despite efforts by the police to provide counseling and help resolve their issues, the situation escalated tragically.
