Gregory Johnson, a 59-year-old man, was fatally shot inside his home in Richardson, Texas, on February 13, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 9:12 p.m. when Richardson Police responded to a 911 call from the residence on Wake Drive. The caller, identified as 81-year-old Douglas Ervin, reported that he had shot and killed his roommate. Upon arrival, officers found Ervin waiting on the front porch and discovered Johnson’s body inside the home, near a bedroom.
A third individual was present in the residence but was unharmed.
Authorities recovered a shotgun at the scene and arrested Ervin without incident. During questioning, Ervin stated that Johnson had been a difficult roommate, often leaving the front door open and failing to turn off lights and water. Ervin claimed that on the day of the shooting, Johnson made a rude comment as he walked past Ervin’s bedroom, prompting Ervin to retrieve his shotgun and fire at Johnson. Ervin admitted that Johnson was unarmed and was not advancing toward him at the time of the shooting.
Ervin has been charged with murder and is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $200,000 bond. The Richardson Police Department continues to investigate the case, and authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
