In the winter chill of January 6, 2025, the life of 38-year-old Hispanic male Abel Rocha Jr. was cut short in Spokane Valley, Washington. A heated confrontation erupted near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and University Road in the early afternoon. The dispute, involving two groups of people, escalated tragically, leading to the sound of gunfire shattering the day's quiet.
When Spokane County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Rocha suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that his death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
The immediate aftermath of the shooting saw a swift response from law enforcement. All other individuals involved in the altercation had fled by the time authorities arrived. However, investigators were able to locate and detain two men believed to be connected to the incident near 8th Avenue and Houk Road. A search warrant was obtained, which led to the recovery of a second handgun suspected to have been used in the shooting.
