On April 4, 2025, 23-year-old African American male Rayqwon Brooks of Newport News, Virginia, was fatally shot in Hampton during an incident that police have described as domestic in nature. The shooting occurred around 12:47 a.m. in the 1st block of Sharon Court, located in the Aberdeen Gardens neighborhood. Responding officers found Brooks suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
