In the quiet community of Curlew, Washington, the life of Lisa Blakeney, a 56-year-old Caucasian woman, was tragically cut short on the evening of March 19, 2025. A Ferry County deputy district court clerk known for her lively and helpful nature, Blakeney was killed in an apparent murder-suicide. The devastating event unfolded at her residence on Boulder Creek Road, a place she had called home for about four years.
That Wednesday night, after 9 p.m., Ferry County 911 dispatch received a
call reporting a domestic violence incident. Deputies were dispatched to the home, but upon their arrival and announcement of their presence, they were met with gunfire through the door. In the ensuing chaos, Deputy Edwin Lopez was struck in the leg. As law enforcement secured the area and attended to their wounded colleague, who was later transported to Ferry County Memorial Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, a grim scene was yet to be discovered inside the residence.
Once investigators were able to enter the home, they found Lisa Blakeney deceased from a gunshot wound. Alongside her was the body of her boyfriend, Curtis Owens. The investigation concluded that Owens had shot and killed Blakeney before taking his own life. The incident left the tight-knit community and her colleagues at the Ferry County District Court in mourning, prompting the court to close for two days to allow staff to grieve the loss of a woman described as a "true bright spot."
