In the early hours of March 29, 2025, a house party in a typically quiet Spanaway, Washington neighborhood descended into chaos and violence, claiming the life of 19-year-old Hispanic male Hector Gonzalez Valdez. The gathering, attended by dozens of young people, had drawn noise complaints from neighbors earlier in the evening. Shortly after midnight, a fight broke out in the street outside the residence on 25th Avenue Court East.
The altercation quickly escalated, and gunfire erupted, sending partygoers running and screaming for cover.
When Pierce County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the chaotic scene, they found a street littered with shell casings and one male victim, later identified as 15-year-old Joaquin Ramirez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Hector Gonzalez Valdez was one of five other victims who were transported to local hospitals. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and, despite undergoing emergency surgery, succumbed to his injuries. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office later ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation into the deadly shooting led to the arrest of two suspects. Surveillance video from the scene reportedly showed 17-year-old Isaiah Williams in a conversation with Ramirez and Valdez before he allegedly pulled out a handgun and opened fire. Williams, who was also injured in the exchange of gunfire when Valdez apparently fired back, was charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. A second individual, 18-year-old Christopher Cobb, was also arrested and charged with first-degree assault after video evidence allegedly showed him firing a weapon during the incident. The investigation suggested a dispute and fight had occurred just before the shooting.
