Gerald Willis Frazier Jr., a 35-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on April 10, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. The incident occurred on Springview Avenue in East Dallas, where Frazier was fatally shot. Authorities responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area and discovered Frazier lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported hearing a heated argument moments before the shooting. Initial investigations suggest that the dispute between Frazier and the suspect, 31-year-old Skylar Wells, may have stemmed from an ongoing personal conflict. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Frazier had allowed Wells to stay at his residence but later asked him to leave due to concerns about disruptive behavior and excessive traffic in the home. This request allegedly led to a confrontation that resulted in Wells shooting Frazier.
Following the shooting, Wells fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle. A police search was launched immediately, and Wells was located and taken into custody just hours later. His arrest occurred after a police chase in Mesquite, Texas, where he was apprehended for vehicle theft and evading arrest. Once in custody, authorities discovered that Wells was wanted for Frazier’s murder. In addition to the murder charge, Wells faces multiple counts of assault on public servants, as he allegedly attacked four officers while in jail, biting two of them.
Wells is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail with a total bond set at $760,000. The investigation into Frazier’s death remains ongoing, with detectives reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter. Community leaders have expressed concern over the rise in gun violence and are calling for increased outreach and intervention efforts to prevent further tragedies.
