On December 29, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina, 18-year-old Jordyn Decedric Campbell was tragically killed in a shooting incident. The event took place around 1:00 p.m. in the 3200 block of Nobles Avenue, located in the Westover Division of Charlotte. Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an emergency call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, they discovered Campbell, an African American male, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite immediate efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an extensive investigation, CMPD detectives identified 22-year-old Daniel Wheeler as a suspect in the case. On January 15, 2025, Wheeler was located and arrested by CMPD’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team without incident. He was subsequently transported to the Law Enforcement Center, where homicide detectives conducted an interview before transferring him to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Wheeler faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Additionally, jail records indicate that he has been charged with two counts of probation violation. His criminal history includes previous offenses such as breaking into vehicles, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. During his court appearance, Wheeler was appointed a public defender and granted a $500,000 secured bond. He has also been ordered to have no contact with any witnesses involved in the case.
