On the morning of Thursday, January 23, 2025, a violent incident unfolded at the Tanglewood Apartments in Anderson, South Carolina, claiming the life of 46-year-old Black male Bruce Lamont Bell. Anderson County 911 dispatchers received a distress call shortly before 9:00 a.m., sending first responders to the residential complex located on Marchbanks Avenue.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers from the Anderson Police Department discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside one of the apartment buildings.
Emergency medical teams from Medshore EMS and the Anderson Fire Department attempted life-saving measures on site before transporting the injured man to AnMed Health Medical Center. Despite these efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 9:40 a.m. The Anderson County Coroner's Office later ruled the manner of death as a homicide resulting from the gunshot wounds sustained during the morning disturbance.
Preliminary investigations by local authorities suggested that the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic altercation within the apartment that escalated into gunfire. Law enforcement officials quickly secured the area and began interviewing witnesses. Shortly after the shooting, police detained a 17-year-old juvenile for questioning in connection with the homicide. As of the initial reports following the incident, no formal charges had been publicly announced against the teenager, and the investigation remained active with detectives working to determine the full circumstances of the event.
Bruce Lamont Bell was a lifelong resident of the area and the son of Joe Bruce Craft and Annie G. Bell Craft. He was remembered by his community and extensive family, which included his parents, nine children, and fourteen grandchildren. A funeral service was scheduled to be held at the Marvin Mattison Memorial Chapel to honor his life. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information regarding the shooting to contact the Anderson Police Department as the case moves forward.
