Brandon Marcell Ogden, a 27-year-old man from Youngstown, Ohio, tragically lost his life on January 10, 2025, in what was later identified as the city's first homicide of the year. The incident occurred in the 2500 block of Ohio Avenue on Youngstown’s North Side. Authorities responded to reports of a shooting and found Ogden suffering from gunshot wounds. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation, law enforcement identified 29-year-old Jonathon Simmons as the primary suspect in the killing. Simmons was apprehended by the Milton Township Police Department during a routine traffic stop, where officers discovered that he was wanted in connection with Ogden’s death. He was subsequently detained and transferred to the Youngstown Police Department for questioning before being placed in the Mahoning County jail. Simmons was later indicted on a charge of murder with a firearm specification, which carries the possibility of a life sentence if he is convicted.
Ogden, who was born on January 18, 1997, was remembered by his family and friends as a kind-hearted individual with good intentions. He attended Mahoning County High School and was deeply cherished by his loved ones. He is survived by his parents, Brandy Ogden and Jermelle Lewis, his grandmother, Kim Neff, his sisters Briyonna and Beyoncé Ogden, six other siblings, his nephew ShonMari Terry, and his daughter A’Miracle Redrick. His passing left a profound impact on those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
No services were scheduled following his death, and his family mourned privately. The case against Simmons proceeded through the legal system, with his indictment marking a significant step in the pursuit of justice for Ogden. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continued as authorities worked to ensure accountability for the crime.
