Linster Rasberry, a 48-year-old Black/African American man from Charlotte, North Carolina, was killed during an early-morning shooting on February 24, 2025, in the Fort Mill area of York County, South Carolina. The shooting occurred at about 5:30 a.m. near Foothills Way and Carowinds Boulevard, in the commercial area around a Circle K gas station close to Interstate 77 and the North Carolina state line. Authorities said the violence followed an argument between Rasberry and another individual.
Early news reports stated that deputies arrived within minutes, found Rasberry suffering from gunshot wounds, and that he was transported to a hospital, where he died. A later report citing York County Coroner Sabrina Gast stated that Rasberry died at the scene.
Investigators identified Duan Ralphielle Partlow of Sharon, South Carolina, as the suspected shooter. According to arrest warrants obtained by The Rock Hill Herald, Partlow allegedly approached Rasberry’s vehicle and shot him with a handgun. The warrants indicated that investigators had surveillance video connected to the shooting. Law enforcement described the encounter as beginning with an argument between the two that escalated into violence. Crime-scene investigators examined the area around the nearby businesses, and reporting from the scene described a Nissan sedan with what appeared to be a bullet hole in the driver-side window. The killing was identified as York County’s first homicide investigation of 2025.
The investigation quickly expanded beyond the immediate shooting scene as York County deputies worked with other law-enforcement agencies to locate Partlow. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Rock Hill Police Department and Fort Mill Police Department were among the agencies reported to have assisted. Approximately four hours after the shooting, officers located Partlow during a traffic stop on Old York Road in York, roughly 20 miles from the shooting scene. He was taken into custody at approximately 9:20 to 9:30 a.m. Sheriff Tony Breeden credited the rapid arrest to deputies’ efforts to identify and track the suspect in the hours immediately following the killing.
Partlow was formally charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Court and law-enforcement records cited in subsequent reporting showed that he was being held in the York County jail following his arrest. Authorities alleged that he used a handgun to shoot Rasberry after their dispute escalated, but the criminal charges remain allegations unless proven in court. What began as an argument before dawn ended with Rasberry fatally shot, a multi-agency search underway, and Partlow in custody within hours.
