Alvin Ray Sweet, a 17-year-old male from Watauga, Texas, tragically lost his life on April 29, 2025. The incident occurred in North Richland Hills, where Alvin was found slumped over the steering wheel of a black Honda with a faint pulse. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his left calf and torso. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators believe Alvin was in Walker's Creek Park when he was shot, after which he drove across a creek bed before crashing into a parked car.
Authorities have arrested multiple suspects in connection with the shooting. The individuals taken into custody include 17-year-old Ziquarius Taveon Burnette of North Richland Hills, 18-year-old Oscar Macias of Haltom City, and 17-year-old Zackary Daniel Garza of North Richland Hills. Additionally, a juvenile suspect was arrested, though their identity and charges have not been disclosed. Arrest affidavits indicate that Alvin was allegedly involved in drug dealings with the suspects on the night of his death. One of the suspects admitted that they intended to rob Alvin but claimed they did not plan to shoot him.
The crime scene revealed eight shell casings from multiple firearms, suggesting that more than one shooter was involved. Surveillance footage and location data from Alvin's phone indicate that he arrived at the park at 10:24 p.m., with gunfire erupting two minutes later. Sixteen seconds after the shooting began, Alvin's vehicle crashed into a parked car. A female food delivery driver was also struck by a stray bullet in her shoulder while walking back to her car. She was treated at the hospital and later released.
Alvin's passing has left his family and friends devastated. He was known for his love of basketball, gaming, and outdoor adventures. His artistic talents and enthusiasm for trying new foods brought joy to those around him. His funeral services were held at Forest Ridge Funeral Home in North Richland Hills, followed by a graveside ceremony at Smithfield Cemetery. His memory continues to be cherished by his parents, siblings, grandparents, and numerous extended family members and friends.
