On January 31, 2025, Bernard Warren Joyce III, a 48-year-old African American man from Stoneville, North Carolina, was fatally shot during an altercation. The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. in the 300 block of South Henry Street. Upon arrival, officers found Bernard Warren Joyce III in the front yard with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 23-year-old Miguel Angel Corona, was present at the residence when officers arrived and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities indicated that the shooting stemmed from an isolated altercation between Bernard Warren Joyce III and Miguel Angel Corona. Corona has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail without bond.
The Stoneville Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation, with assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, the Mayodan Police Department, the Madison Police Department, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
