On the evening of January 17, 2025, a dispute in the hallway of the Candlewood Suites hotel on Walker Road in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, ended in the death of 43-year-old Ted A Guerrier, a Black/African American male. Police were called to the hotel at approximately 5:08 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Guerrier on the floor of a hallway, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The conflict reportedly began with an argument between Guerrier and
Kelsey Myles, a 36-year-old from Clarksdale, Mississippi. According to court documents, Myles believed that Guerrier had inappropriately touched his girlfriend, 37-year-old Kayla Moore, who was also from Mississippi. Witnesses stated that the argument escalated, and Guerrier struck Myles in the face. In response, Myles is said to have drawn a handgun and shot Guerrier. Surveillance footage from the hotel captured Myles pointing a gun at Guerrier before the two moved out of the camera's view. Witnesses who had attempted to intervene fled just before the fatal shot was fired.
Following the shooting, Myles fled the scene in a Ford Escape that had been rented by 30-year-old Davarious Bender of Alabama. Both Bender and Moore were later accused of helping Myles evade capture. When initially questioned by police, neither Moore nor Bender disclosed Myles's location. Later that evening, Moore was seen getting into the same vehicle Myles had used to flee. The vehicle was eventually tracked down in Virginia, where Myles and Moore were found inside. Myles was arrested the following morning in Virginia and charged with criminal homicide and recklessly endangering another person. Virginia court records also show he was charged with being a fugitive from justice.
Both Bender and Moore faced felony charges for hindering the apprehension and prosecution of Myles. Bender was released from the Franklin County prison after posting a $200,000 bail and was awaiting a preliminary hearing. Moore and Myles remained in custody, awaiting their respective hearings. Myles had not yet been extradited back to Franklin County to be arraigned on the local homicide charge.
