In the early morning hours of December 14, 2015, the life of 33-year-old Deval Green was tragically cut short in his home in Guilford Township, near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. A group of individuals orchestrated a home invasion and robbery that resulted in Green suffering multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Chambersburg Hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the violent death of Deval Green, a male, led law enforcement to identify six individuals
involved in the fatal home invasion. The suspects were Tarence Lamar Reed, 29, of Hagerstown, Maryland; Antoine Alphonzo Hunter, 24, also of Hagerstown; and four Chambersburg residents: Tyree Swindell, 23, Cheyenne Kline-Branche, 23, Damien Garnett Calloway, 20, and Gerald Omar Scarlett, 21. Within days of the murder, authorities began to close in on the suspects, making a series of arrests. Swindell was taken into custody on the same day as the incident. In early January 2016, Kline-Branche, Calloway, Scarlett, and Hunter were also apprehended. Reed, however, remained at large for a period before he was captured.
The prosecution built a case against the six individuals, charging them with a range of serious offenses, including homicide, criminal conspiracy to commit homicide, robbery, burglary, and theft. A significant development in the case came when four of the co-defendants—Swindell, Kline-Branche, Calloway, and Scarlett—entered into cooperation agreements with the prosecution. As part of these agreements, they agreed to testify against Reed and Hunter.
In September 2017, Tarence Lamar Reed and Antoine Alphonzo Hunter faced a joint jury trial. The testimony of their four former accomplices painted a detailed picture of the planning and execution of the deadly home invasion. After careful consideration of the evidence presented, the jury found Tarence Lamar Reed guilty of first-degree murder and related charges. In November 2017, he was sentenced for his role in Deval Green's death. Reed later appealed his conviction, but the judgment was affirmed in 2022, solidifying the legal consequences of his actions on that fateful December morning.
